RIP Nate Dogg...

Flooding my Twitter last night were a bunch of tweets about Nate Dogg's death. The internet couldn't keep up fast enough as nothing was available on Google quite yet. Then a retweet by Big Boi & Mayer Hawthorne via Daz Dillinger (likely a reliable source) stating a "RIP Nate Dogg" made true what everyone thought could be a rumor.
Nate Dogg at the young age of 41 was deceased. His death seemed inevitable having already suffered 2 strokes, 1 in 2007 and the other in 2008. He was said to have been in rehabilitation ever since.

You regulate on higher turf now and suffer no longer, Nate Dogg. Rest in peace...

Lupe Fiasco - Lasers

Oh how I waited and waited in anticipation for this album. Twitter was no kinda good to me, following Lupe Fiasco, and all the talk of Lasers - by him and fans alike. I told myself that I wasn't gonna download it before it's official release date, since y'all know as much as I that sometimes leaked tracks don't sound as good as the original. So finally came March 8th and I happily made my purchase...
Undoubtedly a lovely piece of work. Lupe has seemingly become one of those artists that only get better as their musical life progresses. With a signature Lupe sound, I do believe his creativity has garnered a level up. Some tracks, melancholy and others brighter, I enjoyed just about every song on this album. And after one listen, I already had my favorites.
A long way from Kick Push, Lupe can't leave us losers just yet. Here for him as much as he's stuck around to stay here for us. Even if it might've been by contract. Either way, we'll always love Lupe.

Rocky Rivera

And just 24 hours after I was intro'd to Hopie Spitshard, my cousin intro'd me to Rocky Rivera (AKA EyeASage).
I know I may be a bit late with this one - rather both of them - but better late than never.
A female, powerhouse MC with a laid back rhyming voice. Carrying many a similarity to Hopie (looks, female, Filipina, MC, Bay Area...) may be a coincidence but safe to say that the production of this particular brand of independent artist is broadening. (Let me find a 3rd one... I might have to see wassup with the water system in the Bay.)
Rocky Rivera appears to me, a little more seasoned and definitely not an undergraduate to the technique. The wife of Bambu - perhaps the musicality derived from likelihood, or life in general, is what brings her around so rough yet gallant. Her sound stages as tough, the sex is a bit more showcased and the bright-eyes are swept under the rug.
She's dope. The pretty pretty holds unnecessary. She seems a lil too street for a whirly girl moniker. But holds it down just the same.

Hopie Spitshard

No... That's not a porno name. Stop it. Even though that, too, was my initial thought. Shhhh... Ahaha! If you happened to initially think that as well, yeah, we here. ;)
Hopie Spitshard is actually the name of an independent, female, Filipina, Hip Hop artist who hails outta the Bay Area. My musical "boss"/cousin/fellow Hip Hop lover was the one who intro'd me to her.
Her sound is unique and hard. She's sweet but doesn't sell her sex. Her voice is cute but not annoying. An obvious pretty girl with a definitive style, an edge for the microphone and stance of purpose in an otherwise man's (Hip Hop) world.
And not only is she a lil hardcore, 90's-esque, underground MC... she's also a lil Josie College. Recently having taken a 2 year hiatus from her music to complete law school. As if you couldn't love her any more... Beauty got brains too.
In emails with my cousin, I kept describing her as pretty pretty dope. Double pretty for a double talent.

Money Making Jam Boys/Bitch!/They not playin'...

Black Thought not playin'
Dice Raw not playin'
Truck North not playin'
P.O.R.N. not playin'
S.T.S. not playin'

Their mixtape, The Prestige: Jam Boy Music, was released in early February and is the kinda stuff that makes me further appreciate what's underground. Already a long-time lover of The Roots, I was put in lust with the fact that Black Thought is a composite in MMJB. Then having the rest of the group consisting of artists that are frequently featured in numerous Roots tracks, made this album automatic in my musical life.

Marsha Ambrosius - Late Nights And Early Mornings

The songstress half of Floetry - at first I didn't even recognize her on her album cover! Marsha Ambrosius is lookin' kinda hot. And she definitely didn't leave the heat with just her new look... Although the song selection hasn't veered much from some of the more popular Floetry songs, most still engulfed in the desire and passion of love, I can't even be mad at her solo debut. Listening to her album had me nostalgic, remembering the times when I cared a little less about life and dove into the deep end of passion. At some instances it even made me wanna creep under my sheets, both by myself and with someone. I replayed almost every deep memory I've had, with every memorable lover I've been entangled with. This album encouraged me to think pleasantly, speak warmly and do passionately. Cheers Ms. Ambrosius. Cheers.

Not my jam... Do not turn it up...

I like the Kardashians. I really do... As reality stars.
Via Kim Kardashian's Facebook & Twitter I've been so eagerly notified that the beloved Miss Kim K. has delved into the music arena. Premiering her debut single this morning on the Ryan Seacrest radio show. Now I ain't entirely mad, as she mentions that a portion of the proceeds from her single will be going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, but on another note it's horrid. Just like all other wanna-be music artists who either know somebody that knows somebody and/or has a whole lotta money, they wanna have the power to do something different and then falsify it by calling it a dream. Insulting the truly artistic and talented likes of real music artists that live and breathe and put their heart, foot, ass and soul into their work. Perhaps that's why I usually despise the masses of mainstream and commercialism because it's all about the sale and rarely ever about the talent. And this is very well the case with Miss Kim's single. But again, I'm not entirely mad knowing where some of the proceeds will be going...

So I put this in the pile of music trash that I continue to create. Along with Drake's eyebrows and Lil Wayne's chompers... JLo's vocals, sober MJB and sensitive Keyshia Cole... But if you're intrigued to still give it a listen and make your own judgement, here you go:

Kim Kardashian song premiere - Jam (Turn It Up)
